WE ARE THE FORGOTTEN BEASTS
Archie has built his life around responsibility and the quiet dream of opening a children’s bookstore filled with fantasy novels and kindergarten art, but days before it opens, he abandons everything to rescue his stepbrother Nick from a drug-fueled spiral across California. Stranded overnight at a Mojave Desert motel, the brothers meet Bree, a grieving housekeeper, and Lolo, a fading bull rider, and together the four slip back into the fantastical childhood worlds they once imagined — worlds of pirate queens, winged lions, space rangers and alien sidekicks that blur the line between escape and survival. We Are the Forgotten Beasts, an O’Neill Finalist, is a tender, surreal Americana odyssey about memory, addiction, and the monsters we carry into adulthood.
